Smooth walls, ready to decorate.

We skim over old walls, re-plaster where the old plaster has blown, and board and plaster new walls and ceilings.

We're based in Pontrug, a few minutes from Caernarfon, and we plaster homes across Gwynedd and Anglesey, from Bangor and Y Felinheli to Porthmadog. Gwynedd Construction Ltd has been building in North Wales as a limited company since 2016.

Freshly skimmed walls in a room
01

Skimming

A fresh, smooth finish over sound walls and ceilings. It's the quickest way to make a tired room look new.

We sheet the floors and furniture first, and clean up before we leave.

  • Smooth finish over sound walls
  • Floors and furniture protected
  • Ready to decorate once dry

02

Artex ceilings

Old textured ceilings and walls skimmed flat, so the room looks up to date.

Artex put on before the late 1990s can contain asbestos, so an old textured ceiling should be tested before anyone sands or scrapes it. See the section below.

  • Textured ceilings made flat
  • Old Artex tested first
  • Clean, modern finish

03

Re-plastering

When old plaster has blown or been damaged, skimming over it won't last. We hack it off and start again.

It's common in older stone houses and terraces, and often part of a bigger renovation.

  • Blown plaster hacked off
  • New plaster from the wall up
  • A finish that lasts

04

Plasterboarding

New stud walls, ceilings, extensions and garage conversions boarded and finished.

Because we build the walls as well, the whole job is done by one team.

  • New walls and ceilings
  • Boarded and skimmed
  • Part of bigger building jobs

05

Patching and making good

After a wall is knocked through, a rewire or new pipework, the walls and ceilings need putting right.

We blend the patches in so you can't see where the work was done.

  • After knock-throughs and rewires
  • Patches blended in
  • No visible joins

Plastering is messy work. This is how we keep it tidy and get a good finish.

  2. Protect the room

Floors and furniture sheeted, and the work area closed off.

  3. Prepare the walls

Loose plaster removed, cracks and corners prepared.

  4. Plaster

A smooth finish on walls and ceilings.

  5. Clean up

The room is cleaned before we leave.

  6. Drying advice

We tell you how long your room needs before you paint.

Good to know

A word on Artex

Artex and similar textured coatings put on before the late 1990s can contain asbestos.

  • It's safe left alone, but it must not be sanded or scraped off without testing first.
  • If a test is clear, the ceiling can be skimmed.
  • If it isn't, it's usually safest to skim over it without disturbing it, or to have it removed by a licensed specialist.

After we've finished

New plaster needs to dry before you paint it. You'll see it turn from dark brown to an even pale pink. Then use a watered-down mist coat first, so the paint grips and doesn't peel.

We sheet the floors and furniture, and clean up before we leave.
